Making a decision about a system that affects your whole home like central air conditioning is difficult. Read up as much as you can, especially from trusted sources like Consumer Reports. They wrote a helpful guide for those interested in cooling off their home (which around here means during the summer).
One great piece of advice: Once a year have a licensed professional change all filters, clean and flush the coils, drain the pan and drainage system, and vacuum the blower compartments. The contractor should also check that the system is properly charged with refrigerant, that there are no leaks, and that all mechanical components are working properly.
